Bear Beats: Episode 28, For Competition Through Mar. 15

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 28th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's basketball, men's and women's indoor & outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, and golf.

On the horizon:
 
No. 6 Baseball
  • WashU hosts five games this week, beginning with a single game on Wednesday, Mar. 18 against Wis.-Platteville.
  • Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
  • The Bears have won the last five meetings, including a 7-2 at home in their last meeting during the 2012 season.
  • WashU will then host a four-game series over the weekend on Saturday, Mar. 21 and Sunday, Mar. 22, with a doubleheader each day.
  • Saturday's games will also be the team's First Responders Appreciation Games.
  • Last season, the Bears and Gusties split their four games at Kelly Field with WashU winning game one, 9-5 and game four, 10-2.

No. 6 Softball
  • WashU opens up UAA play this weekend when it travels to No. 16 Case Western Reserve for a three-game conference series.
  • The two teams will play a single game on Friday, Mar. 20 at 3 p.m. ET before closing out the weekend with a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 21 starting at 12 p.m. ET.
  • Last season, WashU won the series with the Spartans at home 2-1. The one loss was the only conference loss by the Bears last season.

No. 10 Women's and No. 14 Men's Swimming and Diving
  • WashU will compete at the NCAA Championships beginning on Wednesday, March 18 and conclude on Saturday, March 21 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
  • On the women's side, nine swimmers and one diver qualified for the national meet.
  • They were led by sophomore Iris Qi who qualified in six events, including four relays and two individual events.
  • On the men's side, eight swimmers earned their spot in Indianapolis.
  • Both junior Marco Minai and first-year Parker Chan qualified in four different events.

Women's and Men's Outdoor Track & Field
  • After a very quick turnaround, WashU kicks off the outdoor season on Saturday, Mar. 21 when they travel to Fayette, Mo. for the Central Methodist Open.
  • Field events get started at 10 a.m.
  • Running events get underway at 12 p.m.
