Box Score HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team defeated No. 4 Wesleyan 4-3 on Friday. The Bears are now 9-1 on the year with one final match of their spring break trip.
Doubles
The Bears swept doubles to take an early 1-0 lead over Wesleyan.
No. 7 junior
Eleanor Archer and sophomore
Caitlin Bui defeated Lucinda Gatsiounis and Leila Epstein 6-3 at No. 1 doubles.
No. 11 senior
Eliana Hanna and sophomore
Ally Lin beat Lara Afolayanka and Natalia Leroy Garibay 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.
No. 18 first-year
Lily Brecknock and sophomore
Sam Slowik defeated Agnes Guggenheim and Kendall Smith 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles
No. 17 Archer picked up the first singles point at No. 2 singles, defeating Guggenheim 6-3, 6-2. Bui made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 win over Afolayanka at No. 3 singles.
Wesleyan picked up a win at No. 5 singles at Mariia Kornilova defeated senior
Amber Edmonds 7-5, 7-5. Leroy Garibay then made it a 3-2 match with a win over No. 45 Lin at No. 4 singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Smith defeated senior
Nina Moravek 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles before No. 8 Hanna clinched the match at No. 1 singles, beating Epstein 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 7-5.
The Bears wrap up their spring break trip on Sunday with a 9 a.m. ET match against No. 9 Babson at Van de Meer Tennis Center.
