DMR Claims National Championship As No. 2 WashU Women's Track & Field Sits In Ninth After Day 1 of NCAA Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Day one of the 2026 NCAA Div. III Indoor Track & Field National Championships is in the books, and the No. 2 Washington University in St. Louis women's track & field team is in ninth place with 10 points, including a national championship for the Distance Medley Relay!

The team of sophomore Lauren Raley, senior Kylie Spytek, sophomore Kalena Riemer, and sophomore Lucinda Laughlin not only claimed the DMR National Championship but did so in dominating fashion.

They finished with a time of 11:29.59, marking several records: a new WashU record, a National Championship Meet Record, and a new Division III Record. Their time was over seven seconds ahead of the national runner-up team from Johns Hopkins.

In the pole vault, senior Mackenzie Walker finished in 14th place with a clearance of 3.75m.

In the 60m prelims, senior Jasmine Wright qualified for the finals on Saturday with a seventh-place finish in a time of 7.53.

Senior Jillian Heth qualified for the Mile final on Day 2 with a 10th place finish in 4:51.81, grabbing the final spot.

In the 800m prelims, first-year Kate Delia and junior Cate Christopher both qualified for the final with fourth and fifth place finishes, respectively. Delia finished with a time of 2:10.61, and Christopher finished with a time of 2:11.18.

Junior Caroline Echols narrowly missed out, finishing in 11th place.

The team of junior Julia Coric, sophomore Quinn Bird, junior Caroline Echols, and sophomore Hailey Weir finished third in the prelims of the 4x400m relay to earn a spot in Saturday's final.

WashU has several event finals and one round of finals for many other events when the 2026 National Championships conclude on Saturday, Mar. 14!
