Bear Beats: Episode 24, For Competition Through Feb. 15

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 24th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's basketball, men's and women's swimming and diving, men's and women's indoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, and golf.
 
A look in the rear-view mirror (events from Feb. 9 – Feb. 15):

On the horizon:
 
No. 1 Women's Tennis
  • WashU is back home this Saturday, Feb. 21 when it hosts Wis.-Whitewater at the Forest Lake Tennis Club in Chesterfield.
  • First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
  • The last two times the teams met was during he 2024 season with the Bears picking up the 9-0 sweep at home at the Tao Tennis Courts.

No. 2 Women's and No. 11 Men's Indoor Track & Field
  • In its final tuneup before the 2026 UAA Indoor Championships, WashU will compete on Friday, Feb. 20 at the IC Hilltop Classic hosted by Illinois College.
  • The meet will take place at the King Fieldhouse-Bruner Center in Jacksonville, Ill.
  • Field events kick things off beginning with the long and triple jumps at 5 p.m.
  • Field events start at 5:30 p.m. with the DMR before the rest begin at 6 p.m. with the Mile.

No. 5 Golf
  • WashU kicks off the spring portion of its 2025-26 schedule this weekend on Saturday, Feb. 21 and Sunday, Feb. 22  at the Centre College Classic.
  • The two-day, 36 hole event takes place at Pinehurst #1 in Pinehurst, N.C.

No. 10 Women's and No. 14 Men's Swimming and Diving
  • WashU will have one more chance to qualify for the 2026 NCAA Championships this weekend at the Bearcat Last Chance meet hosted by McKendree on Saturday, Feb. 21.
  • The meet will take place at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex in O'Fallon, Ill.

No. 13 Women's Basketball
  • WashU is on the road for the final time during regular season this weekend when they pay visits to No. 1 NYU and Brandeis.
  • The Bears first take on the Violets on Friday, Feb. 20 at 7:30 p.m. ET in NYC.
  • Earlier this season, NYU picked up the 77-64 win in the Field House.

  • WashU will then take the trip to near Boston to take on the Judges on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 12 p.m. ET
  • Last time the teams played, it was a no-fans game at the Field House due to the winter storm that passed through the area.
  • The Bears picked up the 62-49 win.

No. 24 Softball
  • Coming off an opening weekend sweep of Illinois College, WashU will host four more games at the WashU Softball Field this weekend.
  • The Bears will face Wartburg on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. before turning around hosting Greenville at 3 p.m.
  • The next day on Sunday, Feb. 22 WashU will take on Wartburg for a second time at 1 p.m. before taking on the Millikin Big Blue at 3 p.m.

(RV) Men's Basketball
  • WashU is on the road this weekend for the final time during the regular season with visits to No. 22 NYU and Brandeis.
  • On Friday, Feb. 20, the Bears will face off against the Violets in NYC with a 5:30 p.m. ET scheduled tipoff.
  • Earlier this season, NYU used a last second heave shot to escape the Field House with a 77-76 win over the Bears

  • WashU turns around and then travels to near Boston on Sunday, Feb. 22 to take on the Judges.
  • In a "no crowd game" due to the winter storm that passed through the area over the weekend, the last time the teams played a late run was not enough as Brandeis left with the 85-81 win.

(RV) Baseball
  • WashU kicks off its 2026 season this weekend when it travels to Millington, Tenn. and the USA Stadium Complex for three contests.
  • On Friday, Feb. 20, the Bears start the season off with a 2:30 p.m. game against Benedictine University.
  • The teams have not faced each other since the 2019 season with WashU claiming the 12-5 win to level the series at 1-1.
  • On Saturday, Feb. 21, WashU will then take on Millikin at 11 a.m.
  • The Bears are 11-2 since 2009 against the Big Blue, but have not played each other since a 5-2 win for WashU in 2021.
  • The final game of the weekend is on Sunday, Feb. 22, also at 2:30 p.m., when the Bears face off against No. 15 Webster.
  • The Gorloks own an 18-15 record since 2008 against WashU, but in the lone match up last season, the Bears claimed a 9-2 win at Kelly Field at Irv Utz Stadium
