ST. LOUIS, Mo. – In a tough matchup against Div. I Saint Louis, the No. 16 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the Billikens on Saturday afternoon at the Missouri Athletic Club.
Every doubles match was close, with SLU narrowly claiming the doubles point, 2-1. Seniors
Eric Kuo and
Colin Scruggs secured a win at No. 2 doubles, 6-3. However, senior
Colin Fox and first-year
Jeremy Sieben dropped their match at the top spot in a tiebreaker, 7-6.
The Billikens took control to start singles, with wins at No. 2 and No. 5 to put themselves ahead 3-0. The Bears answered back with a win at No. 3 by senior
Case Fagan, 6-4, 6-0. SLU clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 win at No. 4 singles.
Trailing 4-1, Scruggs collected a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 7-5, before the Billikens closed out the evening with a match-tiebreak win at No. 6 singles.
WashU returns to action on Friday, Mar. 6, when it welcomes Div. II Kentucky Wesleyan to campus for an 11 a.m. matchup at the Tao Tennis Center.
