UAA CHAMPION! Chan Wins 1,650 Freestyle, Named UAA Rookie of the Year

CHICAGO, Ill. – UAA CHAMPION! First-year Parker Chan won the 1,650 freestyle on Saturday evening with a time of 15:24.33, hitting an NCAA B cut. He is the first WashU men's swimmer since 2019 to win multiple individual titles in the same year.
 
For his performance, Chan was named the 2026 UAA Rookie of the Year. He is the first UAA Rookie of the Years for the Bears since 2016 (Brandon Lum).
 
The No. 14 men finished fourth with a four-day total of 1,067 points.

  • 1,650 Freestyle
    • Chan won the field in 15:24.33
      • First person since Kevin Cleave in 2019 to win multiple individual titles in the same year for the Bears
    • Senior Orluke Borjigin finished second in the B final and 10th overall with a time of 16:12.89
    • Senior Matt Giardinelli took third in the B final and 11th overall in 16:12.16
    • First-year Alex Nguyen finished 15th with a time of 16:26.11

    • Senior Andy Zhu finished fourth in the B final and 12th overall with a time of 1:51.34
    • Sophomore Nicholas Frank finished 14th in 1:51.78

    • Junior Marco Minai claimed third with a time of 1:46.97, hitting an NCAA B cut
    • Chan also reached the podium with an eighth-place finish in 1:52.94
    • First-year Gavin Coggan finished third in the B final and 11th overall in 1:50.25
    • Senior Matthew Walker took 14th in 1:51.58

WashU has one final tune-up and chance to qualify for the NCAA Championships next Saturday, February 21 at McKendree's Bearcat Last Chance at 1:30 p.m.
