Bear Beats: Episode 29, For Competition Through Mar. 22

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 29th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's outdoor track and field, men's and women's tennis, baseball, softball, and golf.
 
A look in the rear-view mirror (events from Mar. 16 – Mar. 22):
 
No. 6 Softball

On the horizon:
 
No. 2 Women's Tennis
  • WashU is back on the court this weekend when it travels to the University of Mary Washington for a trio of matches.
  • The Bears will first take on the host No. 34 Eagles on Friday, Mar. 27 at 4 p.m. ET.
  • On Saturday, Mar. 28, WashU will face UAA opponent No. 11 Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m. ET
  • The weekend wraps up on Sunday with a match against No. 13 Johns Hopkins at 10 a.m. ET
  • All matches will take place at the Hegmann Family Tennis Courts at the Battleground Athletic Complex
 
No. 6 Softball
  • WashU returns home this weekend when it hosts Chicago in a UAA matchup on Friday, Mar. 27 and Saturday, Mar. 28.
  • The teams will play a single game on Friday against the Maroons at 3 p.m.
  • It has been designed as the team's Pride Game.
  • Saturday the Maroons and Bears will play a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. with the games serving as The Hidden Opponent games.
  • WashU swept the season series last year on the road.

No. 7 Golf
  • WashU is at home this weekend, sort of.
  • The Bears will host the WashU Spring Invite on Sunday, Mar. 29 and Monday, Mar. 30.
  • The two-day, 36-hole tournament will take place at the Crown Pointe Golf Club in Farmington, Mo.

No. 12 Baseball
  • WashU has a busy week at home with five more games.
  • The Bears will host its final non-conference game of the regular season on Tuesday, Mar. 24 when they take on Westminster (Mo.) at 2 p.m.
  • WashU claimed the 13-3 win over the Blue Jays last season in seven inning and own a 11-1 record against Westminster going back to the 2008 season.
  • The Bears then kick off its UAA season with a weekend series Friday, Mar. 27 – Sunday, Mar. 29.
  • The teams will play a single game on Friday at 3 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m.
  • Saturday's doubleheader is part of the The Hidden Opponent Games.
  • They will then wrap up with a single on Sunday at 11 a.m.
  • The Maroons claimed the series last year winning three of the four games in Chicago.
  • Going back to the 2008 season, WashU owns a 30-15 record against Chicago.

No. 15 Men's Tennis
  • After nearly two weeks off from action, WashU is on the road this weekend with a pair of matches.
  • The Bears will first travel to Wabash on Saturday, Mar. 28 for a 2 p.m. ET match against the Little Giants in Crawfordsville, Ind.
  • On Sunday, Mar. 29 WashU will not have far to travel as they take on DePauw at 10 a.m. ET in Greencastle, Ind.
 
Women's and Men's Outdoor Track & Field
  • WashU will host a pair of meets this week on Francis Olympic Field.
  • The Bears will host the WashU Distance Carnival on Thursday, Mar. 26 and Friday, Mar. 27.
  • Both days events begin in the afternoon/evening.
  • The WashU Invite will begin on Friday, Mar. 27 with just two field events
  • The hammer throw and shot put will begin at 4 p.m.
  • The remaining field events will be on Saturday, Mar. 28, beginning at 9 a.m.
  • All the track events, beginning with the steeplechase, will take place on Saturday with a 12 p.m.
  • Prior to the track events, WashU will honor its senior class with a special recognition ceremony.
