PREVIEW: No. 9 Women's Tennis Selected to Host NCAA Regional This Weekend

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team opens up NCAA play this weekend as the Bears host a regional beginning on Friday morning at Dwight Davis Tennis Center.
 
The Bears welcome Kenyon, Grinnell, UW-Whitewater, Transylvania and Sewanee to St. Louis for the six-team regional. The winner of the regional will move on to the Championship site, hosted at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps beginning May 20.

About the Bears – Schedule | Roster | Stats
WashU enters the postseason ranked No. 9 in the most recent ITA rankings. The Bears have a dual match record of 13-7 and finished third in the UAA.
 
On Wednesday, the UAA released its postseason awards. First-year Caitlin Bui headlined for WashU as the UAA Rookie of the Year, marking the second-straight year the Bears have had a Rookie of the Year. Bui also earned first team honors for No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles. Sophomore Eleanor Archer picked up first team honors at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles. Junior Eliana Hanna earned second team honors at No. 3 singles and an honorable mention at No. 3 doubles while first-year Ally Lin earned second team honors at No. 4 singles and an honorable mention at No. 3 doubles. Additionally, the coaching staff of Head Coach Paige Madara and assistant coach Erin Swaller were named UAA Coaching Staff of the Year for the first time since 2005.
 
The Bears No. 1 doubles team of Bui and Archer are currently riding an 11-match winning streak heading into NCAA play while Lin is on a five-match winning streak at No. 4 singles.
 
Bui is ranked No. 11 for singles nationally while Archer is ranked 30th, Hanna is 38th and Lin is 45th. Archer and Bui are ranked No. 2 for doubles.
 
WashU earned a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Grinnell and UW-Whitewater on Saturday at 10 a.m.
 
About Kenyon – Schedule | Roster | Stats
Kenyon comes into the postseason ranked No. 26 nationally in the most recent ITA poll. The Owls have 15-6 record and won their third-straight NCAC title to reach the NCAA Tournament. Kenyon also has a bye in the first round and will play the winner of Sewanee and Transylvania on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
The pair of Hana Nouiaime and Eleni Lazaridou are ranked No. 21 nationally. Lazaridou is also ranked No. 12 for singles.
 
The Bears and Owls have already played once this season as WashU beat Kenyon 6-1 on Feb. 1 in its spring season opener.
 
About Grinnell – Schedule | Roster | Stats
Grinnell enters NCAA play ranked No. 41 nationally. The Pioneers won the Midwest Conference title, earning their fifth-straight NCAA Tournament berth.
 
Grinnell earned several conference awards this season. Utsah Kalra, Lily Perrin and Paige Sargent were all named to the all-conference singles and doubles list.
 
The Bears faced off with the Pioneers in the final regular-season match, defeating Grinnell 7-0 on senior day on April 19.
 
Grinnell will face UW-Whitewater on Friday at 10 a.m. The winner will move on to face the Bears on Saturday.
 
About UW-Whitewater – Schedule | Roster | Stats
UW-Whitewater enters the postseason ranked No. 56 in the latest ITA poll. The Warhawks won their 17th-straight WIAC title to earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.
 
The WIAC tennis all-conference awards are determined in the fall. UW-Whitewater swept the three major awards as Gracie Ha earned Player of the Year, Abby Weaver earned Newcomer of the Year and Bill Hehli earned Coach of the Year. Ha, Weaver, Alex Repplier and Sarah Ferguson were named to the first team for singles while Ha, Weaver, Repplier, Molly Asfeld, Ava Andrae and Crystina Lee were named to the first team for doubles. Lee earned a spot on the second team for singles.
 
UW-Whitewater will take on Grinnell on Friday at 10 a.m. The winner will move on to face the Bears on Saturday.
 
About Transylvania – Schedule | Roster | Stats
Transylvania enters the postseason with a 9-7 record and won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference title to earn a bid to the tournament.
 
In the postseason awards, Katherine Taylor earned Player of the Year while Bill Carey was named Coach of the Year. Additionally, Taylor, Maria Hayes, Paulina Razo and Maddy Williams were named to the first team and Lilly Hartman and Ellie Held received Honorable Mentions.
 
Transylvania will take on Sewanee on Friday at 2 p.m. The winner will move on to play Kenyon on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
About Sewanee – Schedule | Roster | Stats
Sewanee enters the postseason ranked No. 25 nationally and won the SAA Championship to earn the automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships.
 
Ansley Carpenter was named the SAA Women's Tennis Athlete of the year and Head Coach Concie Shackelford and staff earned SAA Coaching Staff of the Year. Carpenter, Brooke Despriet, Mariella Congeni, Sarah Livingston, Emma Caldwell and Ivy Wilson all earned first team honors for singles while Carpenter, Despriet, Caldwell and Wilson earned first team honors for doubles.
 
The Bears faced off with Sewanee on March 2 at the ITA Indoor National Championship, beating the Tigers 4-0.
 
Sewanee will take on Transylvania on Friday at 2 p.m. The winner will move on to play Kenyon on Saturday at 2 p.m.

The 2025 Championship
The 2025 Division III women's tennis championship begins with regional rounds this weekend and will conclude at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif. from May 19-27. The Championship site will first host the team championships before moving onto the individual championships.
