Bear Beats: Episode 13, For Competition Through Nov. 16

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The 13th episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's swimming, and men's and women's basketball.

On the horizon:
 
No. 1 Women's Soccer
  • WashU will hit the road for the Sweet 16 after winning regionals and travel to Grantham, Pa. and host Messiah this Friday, Nov. 21.
  • The Bears will take on MIT at 1:30 p.m. ET at Shoemaker Field.

  • The winner will face the winner of the Messiah/Calvin matchup on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1 p.m. ET.
No. 10 Men & No. 14 Women Swimming and Diving
  • WashU will send both its teams back to Chicago for the 2025 Phoenix Invitational being hosted by the Maroons this Friday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23.
  • Prelim rounds will begin each day at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday finals will start at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday finals will begin at 5 p.m.

No. 12 Men's Soccer
  • After defeating No. 3 Chicago for the second time in as many weeks, WashU will host the Sweet 16 and Elite 8 matchups.
  • The Bears will take on Trinity (TX) on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at Francis Olympic Field.
  • The other matchup features Augsburg and Cortland on Saturday at 11 a.m.
  • The winners will play on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to the Final Four in Salem, VA.

No. 13 Women's and No. 18 Men's Cross Country
  • Both WashU cross country teams have been selected for the 2025 NCAA Championships this Saturday, Nov. 22 in Spartanburg, S.C.
  • The women earned the automatic bid after winning the 2025 Midwest Regional title while the men earned an at-large bid.
  • The men's 8K race gets underway at 10 a.m. ET
  • The women's 6K race starts at 11 a.m. ET
  • A live webstream of the championships will occur on NCAA.com beginning at 10 a.m. Eastern time until the conclusion of the awards ceremony.
No. 17 Volleyball
  • WashU earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament after reaching the UAA Championship match this past weekend.
  • The Bears will travel to Wis.-Oshkosh this weekend for the regional pod with the winner advancing to the Elite 8 at Ill. Wesleyan.
  • WashU will face a familiar tournament foe as the Bears will face off against the College of Saint Benedict in the First Round on Thursday, Nov. 20.
  • Last season, the Bears and Bennies faced each other in the NCAA First Round with WashU claiming the 3-0 win in Whitewater, Wis.
  • The other teams in the regional include host UW-Oshkosh, Greenville, Edgewood, Gustavus Adolphus, Dubuque, and Cornell College

RV Women's Basketball
  • WashU has a quick turn around after winning the 24th Annual McWilliams Classic on Saturday when they host Greenville this Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m.
  • The Bears are 8-1 all-time against the Panthers, including a 69-47 win on the road last season in Greenville.
  • WashU brings a 2-1 record into the contest with Greenville being 1-2.

  • The Bears will then hit the road on Saturday, Nov. 22 when they visit Millikin for a non-conference matchup with the Big Blue.

RV Football
  • WashU will play one more game this season as the Bears have been selected to be the CCIW in the Annual Culver's Isthmus Bowl against UW-Stout from the WIAC.
  • The Bears finished the regular season with an 8-2 overall record and 7-2 in the CCIW while the Blue Devils will enter the game with a 5-5 overall record and a 3-4 record in the WIAC.
  • The last time the Bears played in the Isthmus Bowl was during the 2022 season, as WashU fell 31-24 to UW-River Falls.
