ROCK ISLAND, Ill. -- Following the official results of the 2024 NCAA Midwest Regional meets, seven members of the No. 9 Washington Unviersity in St. Louis women's cross country team and six men from the No. 16 WashU men's cross country team have earned All-Region honors by the USTFCCCA.
All-Region honors are earned automatically by finishing in the top 35 at the any one of the regional meets.
Last Saturday, the first four WashU runners to cross the finish line did so in consecutive order, with only .1 seconds separating them. SeniorÂ
Julia Patterson was officially the first to cross at 22:08.8 in 14
th place. Her twin sisterÂ
Abby Patterson had an identical time down to the tenth of a second and finished 15
th. JuniorÂ
Katie Rector was 16
th with a time of 22:08.9, the same time that classmateÂ
Jillian Heth finished with, who was credited crossing in 17
th place.
The final Bear to score points was first-yearÂ
Lucinda Laughlin in 20
th place with a time of 22:19.9. Right behind her in 21
st place was seniorÂ
Sophie Bekins with a mark of 22:21.0. Finishing in 29th place was senior
Virginia Pridgen with a time of 22:45.4.
On the men's side of the meet, GraduateÂ
Cullen Capuano was the first Bear to cross the finish line in seventh place with a time of 24:43.0. SeniorÂ
Matthew Hornung was just .1 seconds behind Capuano in eighth place with a time of 24:43.1.
JuniorÂ
Conor Daly finished the meet in 22
nd place with a time of 25:07.3. The final two point scorers for WashU were graduateÂ
Jack Maranz in 27
th place with a time of 25:16.0 and juniorÂ
Alexander Bullard in 30
th place with a time of 25:17.4. Sneaking into All-Region honors was senior
Alexander Gadin who finished in 33rd place with a time of 25:21.0.Â
Both teams received at-large bids to compete at this Saturday's NCAA Div. III National Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., hosted by Rose-Hulman on the LaVern Gibson Course. The women's race gets underway at 11 a.m. ET with the men following at 12 p.m. ET.Â
