SEASON PREVIEW: #1 Women's Tennis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team, ranked No. 1 in the 2026 preseason poll, begins its spring season slate on Saturday, February 7 at 7 p.m. against Kalamazoo College, held at the Forest Lake Tennis Club in Chesterfield, Mo.
 
The Bears are coming off a historic 2025 season in which they captured the program's first-ever national championship title. WashU won its regional before beating defending national champion Chicago in the Elite 8, Johns Hopkins in the national semifinal and Pomona-Pitzer in the title match.
 
WashU had a successful fall season, hosting the ITA Fall Regional in which junior Eleanor Archer and sophomore Caitlin Bui won the Central Regional doubles title with senior Eliana Hanna and sophomore Ally Lin finishing as the runners-up. It was the first time in program history there was an all-WashU doubles final and the first doubles title for the Bears since 2017. Additionally, Hanna finished as the singles runner-up.
 
With their regional finishes, Archer/Bui and Hanna/Lin earned a bid to the ITA Cup for doubles while Hanna also earned a bid for singles. Hanna advanced to the singles quarterfinal at the ITA Cup, earning All-America status.

All the Bears' home games at the Tao Tennis Center will be streamed exclusively through FloSports. This year, the UAA and FloSports entered an exclusive, five-year media rights agreement to stream all UAA competition.

After opening with Kalamazoo on Saturday, the Bears will travel to Greencastle, Ind. the following weekend for a pair of matches on Sunday, February 15, starting with No. 16 Kenyon College at 9 a.m. ET followed by host-team DePauw at 1 p.m. ET.
 
WashU hosts UW-Whitewater on Saturday, February 21 at 5 p.m. at Forest Lake Tennis Club in a final tune-up before heading to the ITA Division III National Women's Team Indoor Championship the following weekend.
 
The Bears will face No. 26 Sewanee on Friday, February 27 at 12:30 p.m. to open indoor nationals, held at the Farm and Forge Tennis Club in College Grove, Tenn. The winner of that match moves on to play the winner No. 4 Emory/No. 5 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Saturday, February 28 at 1 p.m. in the semifinal. The loser of that match will fall into the consolation bracket and will play the loser of Emory/CMS at 2 p.m. The final match between the two semifinal winners will be held on Sunday, March 1 at 11 a.m.
 
After indoor nationals, the Bears head to Hilton Head, S.C. for four matches (all times TBD), starting with Rhodes on Tuesday, March 10. Next up, WashU will take on No. 4 Emory on Wednesday, March 11, followed by No. 6 Wesleyan on Thursday, March 12. Wrapping up the trip, the Bears face No. 14 Babson on Sunday, March 14.
 
WashU heads back to the east coach two weeks later for an invitational at the University of Mary Washington. The Bears play the host team, No. 39 Mary Washington, on Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m. ET. The following day, Saturday, March 28, WashU faces No. 12 Carnegie Mellon at 1 p.m. ET and wraps up the trip on Sunday, March 29 against No. 7 Johns Hopkins at 10 a.m. ET.
 
On April 11, the Bears host No. 2 Chicago at 10 a.m. in their first outdoor match of the spring season. The next day, WashU faces No. 40 Grinnell at 10 a.m. for senior day.
 
The Bears wrap up the regular-season slate on Saturday, April 18 at home against North Central at 10 a.m.
 
The UAA Championships begin in Altamonte Springs, Fla. on Friday, April 24 and conclude on Sunday, April 26.
 
Two weeks after UAA's, regional play will begin and the winner of the regional will advance to the finals site, the Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tenn. From May 18-26.
 
Personnel
The Bears have four players ranked in singles entering the spring season. Hanna ranks No. 8, followed by Archer at No. 17, first-year Lily Brecknock at No. 38 and Lin at No. 45.
 
At doubles, Archer and Bui are No. 7, followed by Hanna and Lin at No. 11 and Brecknock and sophomore Sam Slowik at No. 18.
 
By class, the Bears have five seniors – Amber Edmonds, Eliana Hanna, Hallie Jeffers, Nina Moravek and transfer Teleya Blunt.
 
There are three juniors – Eleanor Archer, Emily Chiasson and Katie Finerman. Additionally, there are four sophomores – Chloe Brissett, Caitlin Bui, Ally Lin and Sam Slowik.
 
Joining the returning group are first-years – Lily Brecknock and Maddie Morgan.
