Bear Beats: Episode 6, For Competition Through Sept. 28

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The sixth episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, and men's and women's swimming and diving.
 
A look in the rear-view mirror (events from Sept. 22-28):

On the horizon:
 
No. 5 Women's Soccer
  • WashU plays the final away contest of its six-game road trip on Tuesday, Sept. 30 when it travels to Millikin.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Decatur, Ill.
  • The Bears are 8-0 all-time against Millikin, including a 4-0 win at home last season.

  • The Bears return home on Saturday, Oct. 4 when they open UAA play against Brandeis.
  • The contest is part of Youth and Campers Day.
  • Kickoff with the Judges is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
  • WashU is 15-3 all-time against Brandeis, including a 1-0 win in Waltham, Mass. last season.

No. 5 Volleyball
  • WashU will face a trio of matches this coming weekend, including a pair of ranked opponents, when it travels to Stevens Point, Wis. for the Papa John's Invite hosted by UWSP.
  • The Bears will first face off against the Augsburg on Friday, Oct. 3  at 5 p.m.
  • This is the first matchup against Auggies all-time.
  • It will be a quick turn around as WashU faces off against No. 21 Gustavus Adolphus at 7 p.m. that evening.
  • WashU picked up a 3-1 win over the Gusties last season at home during the Bear Invite.
  • The Bears will then wrap up action for the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 4 when it faces off against No. 10 UW-Eau Claire at 12 p.m.
  • WashU has not faced the Blugolds since 2021 when UWEC won 3-0 during the Bear Invite.

No. 12 Men's Soccer
  • WashU is back home this week as it has a pair of contests inside Francis Olympic Field.
  • The Bears begin with a Tuesday evening contest against Greenville at 7 p.m.
  • Last season, the Bears shutout the Panthers 5-0 on the road.

  • WashU will then open UAA play on Saturday, Oct. 4 when Brandeis comes to town.
  • The Bears will get the day started for the field with an 11 a.m. kickoff against the Judges.

RV Football
  • WashU remains at home this weekend when it hosts Illinois Wesleyan in a CCIW contest on Saturday, Oct 4.
  • The contest is scheduled for an evening kickoff time of 6 p.m. at Francis Olympic Field.
  • Last season the Bears left Bloomington with a 33-23 win over the Titans.
  • WashU has won the past five meetings, dating back to 2019.
