COLUMBIA, Mo. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team finished higher than several Division I programs at the Gans Creek Classic Women's 6K Black race on Friday.
Stanford took the team title with 53 points, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was the runner-up with 140 points. Tulsa (3rd–147 points), Texas Tech (4th–164 points), and Navy (5th–170 points) rounded out the top five teams.
The Bears finished in 13th place among the 26 teams competing, totaling 330 points. They finished ahead of Division I teams Northern Iowa, Central Arkansas, Belmont, Omaha, Illinois-Chicago, Charleston Southern, Western Illinois, Evansville, UMKC, UT Martin, Northern Illinois, and UT San Antonio.
A total of 236 runners started the 6K race. Sophomore
Lucinda Laughlin was the top WashU runner on the day, finishing in 28th place with a time of 21:27.1, scoring just 23 points. Senior
Jillian Heth was the next Bear to finish, completing the race in 22:06.0, placing 81st and scoring 57 points.
Sophomore
Sally Carrington was third for WashU with a time of 22:23.9. She finished in 110th place, scoring 76 points. Junior
Vivienne Larson was fourth on the team, finishing in 119th place overall with a time of 22:31.1, tallying 82 points for WashU.
Senior
Katie Rector was the final point scorer for the Bears, finishing in 131st place, scoring 92 points with a time of 22:41.8.
WashU will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when it travels to Rock Island, Ill., for the Augie Interregional. The women's 6K begins at 12 p.m.
