Bear Beats: Episode 4; For Competition Through Sept. 14

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The fourth episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's cross country, golf, and men's and women's tennis.

On the horizon:
 
No. 1 Women's Soccer
  • WashU will have a pair of contests this weekend at Rhodes but one only opponent is currently known.
  • The Bears will take on Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
  • This is the first all-time matchup with the Crusaders.
  • WashU's Sunday opponent will be determined by Saturday results, facing either Rhodes or DePauw.

No. 7 Women's and RV Men's Cross Country
  • Both cross country teams hit the road this Saturday and travel to Terre Haute, Ind. for the Jim McNichols Invite.
  • The meet is hosted by Indiana State.
  • The men's 8K race gets underway at 9 a.m.
  • The women's 6K race gets underway at 9:45 a.m.

No. 11 Volleyball
  • The Bears will host its final home weekend of the regular season on Saturday, Sept. 20.
  • WashU will first take on Concordia (Wis.) at 10 a.m.
  • Prior to the contest, the Bears will honor its five seniors with a special recognition ceremony.
  • It is the first ever matchup with the Falcons.
  • Concordia will play a neutral match against Simpson College at 12:30 p.m.
  • The Bears will then retake the court for the final match of the day against the Storm at 3 p.m.
  • WashU leads the all-time 25-0 with the Bears claiming the most recent match on Oct. 14, 2023 with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-19) sweep at home.

RV Football
  • WashU is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when it travels to Waukesha, Wis. for its CCIW opener at Carroll.
  • Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
  • Last season, the Bears scored the first 28 points enroute to the 35-7 win over the Pioneers.
  • WashU owns the all-time series record 6-0.

Men's Soccer
  • WashU returns home for a pair of contests this week.
  • The Bears take on North Park on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. from Francis Olympic Field.
  • The Vikings own the all-time series 5-2-0 over WashU including a 2-0 win in St. Louis last season.
  • On Saturday, WashU takes on Wheaton at 1 p.m.
  • Prior to the start, the Bears will honor its five seniors with a special recognition ceremony.
  • WashU is 16-21-4 all-time against the Thunder, including a 3-1 win for Wheaton in Illinois.

Women's Tennis
  • WashU will hosts the top teams in the region over the weekend when the Bears host the ITA Midwest Fall Regional Friday, Sept. 19 through Monday, Sept. 22.
  • The first two days will take place at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
  • The final two days make a shift over to campus at the Tao Tennis Courts on Sunday and Monday.
  • Matches on campus will be streamed live through FloSports. A link will become available closer to the weekend.
