GILBERT, Ariz. – Tuesday proved to be a big day for the Washington University in St. Louis women's tennis team. The Bears took down No. 1 defending national champion Chicago in the national quarterfinal to advance to their first-ever national semifinal and two players received national recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

First-year
Caitlin Bui was named the ITA Rookie of the Year, marking the second time in program history a Bear has received this honor. This comes on the heels of earning ITA Central Region Rookie of the Year a day before.

Junior
Eliana Hanna became the first person in program history to earn the national award for ITA Player to Watch. She was just the second person to receive ITA Central Region Player to Watch.

Bui and Hanna have been two integral parts of the Bears' success this year as WashU has posted a 16-7 match record (thus far) with a trip to the NCAA Championships final site for the second-straight year.

Bui, who has primarily played No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles has a 17-4 overall dual record this year as well as a 25-4 overall doubles record. At No. 2 singles, she has posted a 14-4 record on the season and has also gone 3-0 at No. 1 singles. Bui was named UAA Rookie of the Year and earned a spot on the All-UAA First Team for both No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles and in the fall, won the ITA Indoor National Championship for doubles with partner
Eleanor Archer. Bui was also selected to compete at the NCAA Individual Championships for both singles and doubles.

Hanna has primarily played No. 3 singles this season, posting an overall dual record of 16-6 with a No. 3 singles record of 11-5. She and doubles partner
Ally Lin have posted an overall doubles record of 17-3, primarily playing at No. 3 doubles. The duo has won eight-straight at No. 3 doubles. Hanna was named to the All-UAA Second Team for No. 3 singles and earned an honorable mention for No. 3 doubles.
