Gomez Earns Second Team Academic All-America Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. – Exams might be wrapping up, but dedication to both the field and the classroom is on full display for the No. 14 Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team as junior Quentin Gomez has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) NCAA Div. III Academic All-America Team, as announced by the organization today.

A mechanical engineering major, Gomez carries a 3.80 GPA through his first two years in a WashU classroom. He is the only student-athlete from the UAA to earn Academic All-America honors this year, and the first from WashU since Elie Zenner in 2007.

Gomez earned Second Team Academic All-America honors after earlier being named a CSC Academic All-District honoree. This is his first Academic All-America honor after being named All-District last season as well.

He also earned United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-America and First Team All-Region VIII honors earlier this month.

The UAA Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-UAA selection guided the WashU defense to nine shutouts, including ones against three nationally-ranked teams, two of which were in the top three. He helped WashU allow only 16 goals all season. Gomez has also been a spark on the offensive side of the pitch, scoring five goals. He played all 90 minutes in 13 of his 17 games this season.
