Bear Beats: Episode 8, For Competition Through Oct. 12

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Bear Beats is a weekly release that will be posted on Mondays to provide a look back at the past week of action and to preview the events for the upcoming week. The eighth episode for the 2025-26 year will feature men's and women's soccer, volleyball, football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's tennis, and golf.

On the horizon:
 
No. 3 Golf
  • WashU is back on the course for Day 2 of the Hollins Cup in Santa Cruz, Calif. on Tuesday, Oct. 14
  • The Bears are in second place after Day 1.
  • Junior Amy Beanblossom is in fourth with a 75.

No. 4 Women's Soccer
  • The Bears return home for their lone contest of the week when they host No. 16 Carnegie Mellon on Sunday, Oct. 19.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at Francis Olympic Field.
  • WashU is 12-0-1 entering the week while the Tartans are 9-2-2 overall.
  • The Bears are 2-0-0 in the UAA while CMU is 0-1-1 with a 0-0 tie against No. 2 Emory and a 2-1 loss to No. 6 Chicago.

No. 7 Men's Soccer
  • The Bears return home for their lone contest of the week when they host Carnegie Mellon on Sunday, Oct. 19.
  • Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Francis Olympic Field.
  • WashU is 10-1-0 entering the week while the Tartans are 7-1-5 overall.
  • The Bears are 2-0-0 in the UAA while CMU is 0-0-2 with a 1-1 tie against both No. 2 Emory and No. 19 Chicago.

No. 9 Women's & No. 19 Men's Cross Country
  • WashU will compete one more time before the 2025 UAA Championships when it travels to the Augustana Interregional Invite on Saturday, Oct. 18.
  • The meet will take place at the Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill.
  • The men's gold division 8K begins 11 a.m. with the women's gold division 6K starting at 11:45 a.m.

RV Football
  • WashU is back home this Saturday, Oct. 18 when it hosts Elmhurst at Francis Olympic Field.
  • Kick off with the Bluejays is scheduled for 1 p.m.
  • Last season, the Bears earned a 49-10 win over Elmhurst on the road, improving the all-time record in favor of WashU to 6-0.
  • The Bears are currently in a tie for second place in the CCIW standing at 3-1 in conference and 4-1 overall.
  • The Bluejays are in 10th place with a 0-4 mark in the CCIW and 1-4 overall.
  • The game is being featured as Alumni Day, Military Appreciation, and Neighbors' Day.

Women's Tennis
  • Four members of WashU will be traveling to the ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. this weekend Oct. 16-19 by virtue of their finish at the ITA Regional.
  • The Bears will be sending the team of junior Eleanor Archer and sophomore Caitlin Bui who claimed the regional title over teammates Senior Eliana Hanna and sophomore Ally Lin, who will also be competing by being the regional runner-up.
  • Hanna will also compete in the singles bracket by finishing runner-up in the ITA Regional singles tournament.

  • Other members of the team will take part in the WTN Open at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center on Friday through Sunday, Oct. 17-19.

Men's Tennis
  • The Bears will take part in the WTN Open this weekend, Oct. 17-19 at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.
  • The annual event is open to both men's and women's collegiate players.
