Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

No. 4 WashU Women's Soccer Hands No. 3 CWRU First Loss of the Season

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The No. 4 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team picked up a big conference win on Saturday, defeating No. 3 Case Western Reserve University 2-1 on the road. The Bears are now 12-0-1 on the year with a 2-0 mark in UAA play, handing the Spartans their first loss of the season.

The Bears scored twice in the first half, first in the 20th minute. Following a blocked shot from senior Grace Ehlert, senior Ella Koleno put in her fifth goal of the year to put the Bears up 1-0.

After getting around several defenders, sophomore Olivia Clemons played a give-and-go with sophomore Cami Colpitts and fired it into the left corner for a 2-0 lead in the 34th minute. It marks Clemons' ninth goal of the season.

The Spartans cut the Bears' lead to one, scoring in the 65th minute as Abby Welker took a short cross from Izzy Probst and fired it into the top right of the goal for a 2-1 game.

Although CWRU kicked up its offensive efforts in the second half, the Bears' defense stood strong against the remaining offensive chances. In the net, sophomore goalkeeper Kassidy Lanthier earned the win, making three saves, all in the second half.

The Bears edged the Spartans 13-12 in shots with an 8-4 advantage for shots on goal. Clemons recorded four total shots with three on goal while junior Sophie Viscovich had two shots, both on goal.

WashU is back home next Sunday when the Bears host Carnegie Mellon at 1:30 p.m. for the Bears Supporting Bears and Latiné Heritage Game.
