Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Kochen Goal Leads No. 7 WashU Men's Soccer Over Case Western Reserve

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The No. 7 Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team traveled to Cleveland on Saturday morning for its first road UAA contest of the season. Facing off against Case Western Reserve, the Bears used a goal in the 21st minute to leave and return to campus with a 1-0 win over the Spartans.

With the win, WashU improves to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in the UAA.

After several attempts by CWRU to push the ball upfield into their offensive end of the pitch, the Bears were able to secure a corner kick on the opposite side of the field. As the teams lined up for the corner, senior Zach Susee stepped up and curved the ball from the left corner just enough that found first-year Daniel Kochen who tipped the ball past the goalkeeper, sending it into the back of the net at 20:10.

This gave the Bears a 1-0 lead, a lead they were able to maintain and defend for their third-straight shutout win.

WashU earned the win despite the Spartans taking more shots, including shots on goal, as well as more corners.

Kochen led the Bears with three shots, including two on goal.Junior Quentin Gomez had two shots for WashU, as well.

Junior Cal L'Hommedieu made five saves while playing all 90 minutes to extend his shutout streak to three games and his unscored upon time to 314:49.

WashU is back home next Sunday when it takes on Carnegie Mellon on Oct. 19. Kickoff with the Tartans is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Francis Olympic Field. The Bears have designated the contest as their Latiné Heritage Game.
