ELSAH, Ill. – After moving up in the rankings this week, the No. 19 Washington University in St. Louis men's cross country team made their presence known in a rare mid-week meet on Wednesday. WashU claimed the win at the Principia Twilight Invite on Wednesday afternoon at the North Farm Cross Country Course in Elsah, Ill.
For the second time this season, the Bears scored the fewest points possible at a meet, with just 15, to take home the team title. Mineral Area College (63 points) narrowly edged host Principia (64 points) to finish second and third, respectively. Lyon (121 points) and Blackburn (121 points) tied for fourth to round out the field.
Sophomore
Ben Lorenz took home the individual title with a time of 26:43.00. First-year
Mateo Gros-Slovinsky (27:09.80) and sophomore
Josh Poeschel (27:22.20) were second and third, respectively.
First-years
Charlie Glatz and
Bankson Roach were the final two point scorers for the Bears, with times of 27:34.60 and 27:39.70, respectively, to finish fourth and fifth overall.
WashU will be back on the course one final time before the UAA Championships when they travel to Rock Island, Ill., for the Augie Interregional hosted by Augustana on Saturday, Oct. 18. The men's 8K race is scheduled for 11 a.m.
