St. Louis, Mo., November 6, 2021 – The No. 6 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team battled No. 16 Chicago to a 1-1 overtime draw on Saturday at Francis Olympic Field.

The Bears conclude the regular-season at 14-1-2 and 5-1-1 in the UAA while Chicago ends the regular-season at 12-2-4 and 2-2-3 in conference play.

The Maroons were the first to get on the board as Maggie Jameson put in a pass from Bella Mahoney to take a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. Chicago would hold onto the one-goal lead through the end of the first half.

The Bears would even the score in the 58th minute as senior Ariana Miles took a short cross from Jess Shapiro and found the back of the net past a diving Miranda Malone. It was Miles fourth goal of the season.

WashU nearly took the lead just 13:31 in, as there was a Chicago foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Emily Kaufman's attempt, however, was saved by Malone to keep the Bears off the board.

Both teams battled from the start and had several scoring opportunities.

Sophomore goalkeeper Sidney Conner made her first save of the day on a Nicole Kaspi shot in the 10th minute.

WashU had a scoring chance in the 17th minute on a Riley Alvarez header, which was saved by Malone. Shapiro put a shot on goal in the 25th minute which was also saved.

Conner made back-to-back saves in the 27th and 28th minutes, stopping shots from Chicago's Peyton Jefferson and Hannah Rittenhouse.

The Bears had the final shot of the first half, as Anna Viscovich put a shot on-frame in the 39th minute, which was saved by Malone.

The Bears put together a solid scoring opportunity in the 50th minute. Senior defender Gabbie Cesarone had her header blocked by a Chicago defender and Miles' follow up shot was also blocked. In the 52nd minute, Malone stopped a shot from Erin Flynn.

WashU controlled much of the play in the second and final overtime, putting pressure on the Chicago defense and goalkeeper. The Bears forced Malone to make five saves in the second overtime on shots from Cesarone, Alvarez, Flynn and Gaelen Clayton.

The Bears outshot Chicago 14-4 and had seven corner kicks to Chicago's one.

WashU now awaits its NCAA Tournament fate. The Bears earned the automatic bid for the UAA last weekend and will find out on Monday at 12 p.m. where they will be going for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
