ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team opened the season with a 14-0 win over Greenville at home on Tuesday evening.
WashU set a pair of new program records against the Panthers, for most goals scored in a game (14) and most goals scored in the first half (nine). Both records were previously set in 2016.
Junior
Cami Colpitts scored a hat trick in the first half, scoring the first goal just 27 seconds in. At 18:13 she followed with another goal in the high right corner for a 2-0 edge.
The third goal of the game was scored by senior
Jadyn Aling at 20:00, scoring on an assist from senior
Sophie Viscovich for the 3-0 lead.
Colpitts scored her third goal of the game at 21:23, netting it in the high right corner to put the Bears ahead 4-0.
At the 30:08 mark, graduate student
Ana DiMaria netted her first goal in a Bears' uniform, putting it into the low right corner.
Senior
Julia Moore made it a 6-0 game for the Bears at 34:29, scoring on an assist from sophomore
Annika Park.
At 38:15, senior
Madi Foley had a short goal on a pass from junior
Emily Fox. Less than one minute later at 39:04, sophomore
Lauren Simon put the Bears up 8-0 after getting her own rebound and scoring it in the low left corner.
Moore netted her second goal of the game at 44:23, scoring on a pass from DiMaria for the 9-0 lead.
WashU opened the second half with a goal 2:25 in as senior
Alexandra Karolak put in a corner kick from sophomore
Maya Stevenson to make it 10-0.
Stevenson was the next goal scorer to make it 11-0 at 57:01, scoring on a pass from DiMaria.
Stevenson scored again at 75:42, capitalizing on a dropped saved by the goalkeeper. She completed her hat trick at 79:43, putting in a beautiful ball over the goalkeeper's head on a pass from DiMaria.
Sophomore
Ashle Reese scored the final goal of the game at 86:12, putting in a ball from Stevenson.
Stevenson finished with four shots, scoring three goals and adding two assists. Colpitts had three shots, all resulting in goals while senior
Anna Rosato registered four shots as well with one on goal.
Defensively, the Bears did not allow a shot with goalkeepers senior
Charlotte Shapiro and juniors
Heidi Schultz and
Suzie Green earning the combined shutout.
The Bears hit the road this weekend for a pair of games, starting with Westminster on Friday evening at 6 p.m. followed by a 1 p.m. game at Simpson on Sunday.
