Box Score St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 12, 2015 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team outshot Dominican University 25-4 but could only muster one goal in a 1-1 double overtime tie Saturday night at Francis Field in St. Louis.
WashU's defense was exceptional in the tie allowing just one shot on goal. Junior goalkeeper Nick Tannenbaum did not make a save but played the entire 110 minutes in goal.
Dominican (2-1-1) scored first in the 11th minute on the first shot of the game after a short corner. Tomasz Ratajczyk finished a cross from Franie Saiz to make it 1-0.
Senior Jack West nearly tied the contest in the 23rd minute after his right-footed shot sailed just over the far post. The Bears did find the back of the net at 27:57 after a nice give-and-go from freshman Marc Vandenberg and West, that resulted in a cross from Vandenberg into the box and a goal by freshman Ryan Sproule.

The Bears took advantage off a pair of fouls by Dominican to set up a free kick just outside the 18 early in the second half. West's free kick nearly snuck underneath the crossbar as Dominican goalkeeper Gabriel Gongora punched it over the bar to keep it tied.
The teams combined for more yellow cards (four) than shots (three) in two overtime periods. West had the lone shot on goal in the 106th minute, a shot that Gongora deflected over the bar.
Gongora had 10 saves to preserve the tie for Dominican.
WashU (2-1-1) hosts Birmingham Southern College Sunday at 7 p.m. The Panthers defeated Fontbonne University 2-0 Saturday to remain undefeated at 4-0.
