St.  Louis, Mo., Nov. 15, 2015 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team had its season come to an end with an 8-7 shootout loss to DePauw University in the second round of the 2015 NCAA Division III Championship Sunday at Francis Field in St. Louis. The game ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play.

WashU finished the season with a 12-4-4 overall record, the most wins since 2011. DePauw (12-3-5) advances to the Sectional Semifinals for the first in school history to take on No. 11-ranked Loras College Friday in Dubuque, Iowa.

Junior goalkeeper Daniel Geanon made seven saves in the tie, including a diving save in the 67th minute and another one in the first overtime.

DePauw scored on its first shot of the game by Mitch Reavis in the second minute, after he took a short corner from Adrian Ables and fired a shot to the near corner that Geanon never saw. The Tigers nearly took the 2-0 lead in the 16th minute when Julian Gonzalez fired a shot inside the box that went off the near post.

WashU had a scoring opportunity at 21:54 in the first half, but junior Grant Baltes' point-blank shot went over the goal. The Bears continued to pepper shots at DePauw goalkeeper Chris Yount, and tied the contest just before half at 40:52.

Geanon made the save of the night for WashU in the 67th minute to keep it a tie game. DePauw's Zach Hoffman snuck behind the WashU defense and was left open for a header inside the six that Geanon had to make a diving save.

Gonzalez nearly won the game in the 99th minute, but Geanon got a hand on a shot from just outside the box to send the game to a second overtime.

The two teams combined to convert on 10-straight penalty kicks, and it was Geanon who stopped DePauw's Hoffman for the first miss of the night. Baltes had a chance to win it on the ensuing PK, but his shot was stabbed by Yount.

Justin Mitchell converted on the ninth PK for DePauw giving the Tigers an 8-7 lead, and then junior back Kevin Goon's PK sailed wide left to end the game.
