Chandler's Goal Leads No. 6 WashU to 1-0 Win Over No. 3 Carnegie

St. Louis, Mo., Oct. 30, 2015 – Senior forward Katie Chandler scored in the 105th minute to lead the No. 6-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team to a 1-0 double overtime victory over No. 3-ranked Carnegie Mellon University Friday night at Francis Field in St. Louis.

WashU improved it overall record to 14-2, including 4-1 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while Carnegie Mellon suffered its first loss of the season and fell to 13-1-1, 4-1 in the UAA. The Bears moved into a three-way with Carnegie Mellon and the University of Chicago with two conference games remaining.

Chandler finished off a pass from Rachel Mickelson and buried a shot from inside the box to the far corner for the game-winner. The goal for Chandler was her fourth of the season and 21st of her career.

WashU outshot Carnegie Mellon 20-13, and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior goalkeeper Lizzy Crist made six saves to preserve the Bears' 10th-shutout of season. Crist improved to 12-2 and lowered her goals against average to 0.54.

The Tartans had a pair of chances early in the contest, but junior Allie Schiffman cleared the ball off the line on the second shot for a team save to keep the game tied.

WashU outshot Carnegie Mellon 9-6 in the first half, and had its best chance of scoring in the final minute. Senior Sam Ezratty nearly headed the ball into an open net at 44:15, but was cleared out by the Tartan defense for a team save.

WashU celebrates Senior Day on Sunday, Nov. 1, against Case Western Reserve University (7-5-4, 0-4-1 UAA). Game time is set for 11 a.m. at Francis Field.

BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Carnegie Mellon 19-3-2, and the Bears have won the last 10 meetings … The Bears are 8-0 at home this season … The Bears have recorded 14 or more wins in seven of eight seasons under head coach Jim Conlon … WashU is 4-1 this season against ranked teams … Mickelson's assist was her team-leading sixth of the season, second most in the UAA.
