Box Score St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 16, 2014 – The No. 1-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team remained undefeated with a 4-0 win over Greenville College Tuesday night at Francis Field in St. Louis.
Washington U. improves to 6-0 with the win, while Greenville falls to 0-6. The Bears are one of 29 undefeated teams left in NCAA Division III, and are unbeaten in the their last 21 games dating back to the 2013 season.
The Bears struck early and often against Greenville in the first half. WUSTL took the lead in the fifth minute after senior Tessa Klumpp set up junior Olivia Lillegraven with a pass over the Greenville defense that resulted in the first goal. The game-winning goal for Lillegraven was her fourth of the season, tops in NCAA Division III.
Senior Lillie Toaspern made it 2-0 with a shot from the left side on an assist from sophomore Hannah Rosenberg, and then added a goal in the 35th minute with a laser shot to the far corner. Washington U. had a 10-1 shot advantage in the first half.
The Bears kept the pressure on in the second half, and pushed the advantage to 4-0 after junior Abby Starker knocked in a cross from freshman Megan Renken in the 65th minute. The goal for Starker was her second of the season.
Sophomore goalkeepers Lizzy Crist (45 minutes, zero saves) and Nina Gerson (45 minutes, one save) split time in the nets as Washington U. posted its sixth-straight shutout. The Bears have not allowed a goal in six games – a span of 545:42.
Washington U. outshot Greenville 20-3 and had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Washington U. returns to action Friday, Sept. 19, at Webster University. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the St. Louis Soccer Park in Fenton, Mo.
