Box Score Chicago, Ill. – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team suffered a 3-0 shutout loss on Wednesday at No. 6 North Park in non-conference play.
With the loss, the Bears fall to 1-2 on the year and will next return to Francis Field for a non-conference home match on Tuesday, September 20 against Illinois Wesleyan at 7 PM.
It was a tough matchup for WashU on Wednesday, as they were out-shot 10-2 in the first half and 20-6 for the entirety of the contest.
After 29 minutes of scoreless play in the opening half, Washington U. had a great to get on the board but a header shot attempt from
Owen Culver was saved by NPU's keeper.
Moments later, in the 33
rd minute, North Park would break the scoreless tie with a header goal of its own off a corner kick for a 1-0 advantage.
With five minutes to play before halftime, NPU would add on to its lead with a second goal and would carry a 2-0 lead into the half.
The Bears came out aggressive early in the second half and placed three corner kicks in the first nine minutes looking to cut into the deficit. WU stayed on the offensive and recorded two shot attempts from
Hudson Hazlewood and
Ezra Joseph, but the Bears came up empty on the attack.
North Park pulled away with a third goal in the 81
st minute of action to take a 3-0 lead.
For WashU, the Bears finished with four shots-on-goal, as Culver,
Nate Vota, Hazlewood, and
Zach Susee recorded one shot-on-goal apiece.
In goal,
Matt Martin logged three saves in the loss.
