WashU Men's Soccer Draws 2-2 With No. 6 Chicago in Regular Season Finale

CHICAGO, Ill. – Senior Ethan Wirtschafter converted a penalty kick with just over five minutes remaining as the Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team earned a draw with No. 6 Chicago on Saturday afternoon in the Windy City.

The Bears finish the regular season 10-3-4 and 3-2-2 in the UAA.

It did not take long for the Maroons to get on the board as Jadyn Hsieh-Bailey took a pass from Chase Perry for a quick goal at the 1:28 mark.

Just 18 minutes later, Hsieh-Bailey scored his second goal of the contest early in the 20th minute. He once again took a pass from Perry and Preston Samtani as Chicago took a 2-0 lead 19:02 into the contest.

WashU was able to get back within a goal with just 24 seconds left before halftime. Sophomore Wole Adeoye scored at 44:36 as the Bears trailed 2-1 going into the break.

Adeoye's goal was the lone shot for the Bears in the first half, while the Maroons took 10. Senior Cal L'Hommedieu made five saves in the first 45 minutes in goal.

It was a defensive stalemate for nearly the entire second half. That was until Wirtschafter was fouled in the penalty area. He took the penalty kick himself and scored to tie the match at 2-2 at 84:49.

Chicago was able to fire two more shots, while WashU added one to its total as the teams earned a draw in the final game of the regular season, 2-2.

The second half saw the Bears turn the shots around and outshoot the Maroons 7-6 while taking five corner kicks to Chicago's two.

Wirtschafter finished with a team-high three shots, two on goal, while sophomore Daniel Kochen added two more shots for the Bears.

L'Hommedieu finished the contest with seven saves.

WashU will now await to see if it earns an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament on Monday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m. on NCAA.com.
