Box Score St. Louis, Mo., Sept. 7, 2018 – The No. 10-ranked Washington University in St. Louis women's soccer team recorded its third-straight shutout with a 3-0 over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Friday in the home opener at Francis Field.
WashU improved to 3-0 with the win, while CMS suffered its first loss of the season and dropped to 2-1.
WashU outshot Claremont 9-3 in the opening half, and found the back of the net in the 11thminute for the only goal in the first half.
Senior Hannah Menard fired a shot from 40 yards that went off the crossbar and into the net. The goal for Menard was her first of the season and third of her career.
Junior Taylor Cohen scored on a deflection in the 60thminute to make it 2-0, and then classmate Jesse Rubin lofted a left-footed shot from 30 yards out over the goal keeper to round out the scoring in the 76thminute.
WashU outshot CMS 17-4, including 8-1 in the second half. Sophomore goalkeeper Emma Greenfield (3-0) picked up her third win of the season, as WashU's defense did not allow a shot on goal for the second time this season.
Senior Maggie Crist added a pair of assists in the win, the first multi-assist game of her career.
WashU hosts Franklin College (1-0-1) on Saturday, Sept. 8, at 4:30 p.m.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with CMS, 3-1, and the teams met for the first time since 2015 … The game was delayed for 35 minutes at half due to lighting … WashU is 32-1-1 at home the past four seasons … The Bears are off to a 3-0 start for the seventh time in the last eight seasons… The game-winner for Menard was the first of her career.
