TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Hitting the road for the first time this season, the No. 28 Washington University in St. Louis men's cross country team put in a strong performance on Saturday morning with a second-place finish at the annual Jim McNichols Invite hosted by Indiana State. The course was the same one that the Bears saw twice last year, including for the national championships.
Miami (Ohio) took the team title with 41 points. WashU (70 points) outpaced several NCAA Division I programs to finish second, including Indiana State (3rd – 88 points), Evansville (4th – 120 points), and Eastern Illinois (5th – 132 points).
Sophomore
Sean Green was the first Bear to cross the finish line. He completed the 8K course in 25:15.76 to finish seventh overall. Senior
Conor Daly was next for the Bears in 12th place with a time of 25:31.89. Just two spots behind him, in 14th place, was first-year
Charlie Houck with a time of 25:37.84.
First-year
Max Sudrzynski and sophomore
Ilan Sherman-Kadish went back-to-back in 18th and 19th places as the final point scorers for WashU. Sudrzynski finished with a time of 25:43.63, while Sherman-Kadish finished in 25:45.16.
WashU will have a quick turnaround and compete on Friday, Sept. 26, when it travels to the Gans Creek Classic hosted by Mizzou in Columbia, Mo. The men's 8K begins at 10:30 a.m.
