Opata Earns First Team Academic All-America

AUSTIN, Texas – Washington University in St. Louis graduate student Ebun Opata earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-America honors, the organization announced on Tuesday. She is the 47th Academic All-American in cross country/track and field program history, earning it for the first time.

Opata earned a first-team nod, coming on the heels of having one of the best overall seasons in program history.

In her final season with the Bears, Opata was a 6x-All-UAA selection, earning the honors in both indoor and outdoor for the long jump, triple jump, and the high jump. For indoors, she qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the High Jump and Triple Jump while earning a selection in all three events at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

For indoors, she was named All-Midwest Region in both the triple and high jumps while during the spring outdoor season she was named all-region in all three events as well. At the NCAA Indoor Championship, she finished runner-up in the triple jump while earning a sixth-place finish in the high jump. In May, she finished again as national runner-up in the triple jump while finishing third in the high jump and 11th in the long jump. For her efforts, she was a five-time All-American this year.

Opata graduated in May 2024 with a degree in Social Work with a 3.93 GPA and is currently working towards a master's degree in social work with a 3.94 GPA.
