PITTSBURGH, Pa. - For the seventh straight year (excluding the 2020 and 2021 seasons where no championship was awarded due to COVID-19), the No. 1 Washington University in St. Louis women's track and field team won the University Athletic Association (UAA) Outdoor Championships, Sunday, April 28.
WashU won UAA Outdoor Championships with 249.5 points.
Day two saw five event victories, bringing WashU's two-day total to eight event wins.
University of Chicago claimed second with 203.5 points, while Emory University took third with 124 points.
Sunday's Top Finishers:
Triple Jump:
- UAA CHAMPION!!
- Ebun Opata won the triple jump in convincing fashion as she broke both the stadium and UAA records
- Opata won the title with her mark of 12.58m
- Opata beat the previous stadium (12.31m) and UAA (12.26m) records
- Opata spun 10 points for the Bears
1,500 Meters:
- UAA CHAMPION!!
- Ally Sarussi, who set a new stadium record, won the 1,500m event as she crossed the finish line with a time of 4:30.63
- Sarussi broke the previous stadium record (4:36.65)
- Sarussi welcomed 10 team points for the Bears
- Katie Rector turned in a fourth-place finish with her time of 4:35.65
- Rector, who also topped the previous stadium record, secured five team points for the Bears
- Helena Teixeira-DaSilva posted a time of 4:39.71 to claim seventh
- Teixeira-DaSilva secured two team points for the Bears
400 Meters:
- UAA CHAMPION!!
- Emma Kelley, who added another accolade to her historic resume, won the 400-meter race with her league-best time of 54.54
- Kelley set a new stadium (54.91) and UAA (55.71) record
- Kelley welcomed 10 team points for the Bears
- Kylie Spytek finished in third with her mark of 57.62
- Spytek earned six team points for the Bears
- Cate Christopher cashed in a time of 57.72 to secure fourth in the event
- Christopher generated five team points for the Bears
800 Meters:
- UAA CHAMPION!!
- WashU posted the top four times in the 800-meter run
- Emma Kelley, for the second time of the day, raced to a new stadium and UAA record
- Kelley crossed the finish line with a time of 2:08.49, to top the previous stadium (2:09.93) and UAA (2:09.93) marks
- Danielle Schultz took a runner-up finish with her mark of 2:10.62
- Izzy Gorton grabbed third as she posted a time of 2:13.76
- Caroline Echols hauled in fourth with her mark of 2:14.18
- The four athletes combined to generate 30 team points for the Bears
4 x 400 Meter Relay:
Discus Throw:
- Jenae Bothe claimed fourth in the discus with her heave of 42.01m
- Bothe secured five team points for the Bears
- Taylor Simpson (37.54m), Mikalya Wise (37.49m), and Kally Mack (37.45m) took seventh-ninth, respectively
- Simpson grabbed two points, while Wise collected one team point for the Bears
High Jump:
- Ebun Opata turned in a runner-up mark of 1.56m in the high jump
- Opata spun eight points for the Bears
- Maddie Moenickheim finished in a four-way tie for fourth with her leap of 1.51m
- Moenickheim corralled 3.5 team points for the Bears
100 Meter Hurdles:
- Lauren Gay registered a time of 14.59 to secure third in the event
- Gay secured six team points for the Bears

- Jasmine Wright corralled a runner-up mark in the 100-meter sprint as she crossed the finish line with a time of 12.03
- Maya Davis notched fourth as she posted a mark of 12.18
- Nicole Stewart placed fifth in the event, running to a time of 12.27
- Wright (eight points), Davis (five points), and Stewart (four points) combined to earn 17 points for the Bears
400 Meter Hurdles:
- Ruby Kaplan registered a mark of 1:04.65, which was good for fifth
- Kaplan corralled four team points for the Bears
200 Meters:
- Four Bears earned points in the 200-meter event
- Nicole Stewart spun a time of 24.86 to take home second
- Lauren Gay grabbed third with her mark of 24.87
- Jasmine Wright notched fourth as she posted a time of 25.30
- Maya Davis notched sixth in the event with a mark of 25.46
- The four runners combined to generate 22 team points
5,000 Meters:
- Alexandra Blake ran to a time of 17:19.46 to haul in a runner-up finish
- Blake earned eight team points for the Bears
- Abby Patterson (17:55.85) took ninth
