WARRENVILLE, Ill. – In their final outside competition before the NCAA Midwest Regionals, the No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team and the No. 21 men's cross country team competed at the Red/White Invitational hosted by North Central on Thursday afternoon. The event was a three-mile course for both programs.
Both teams claimed their respective titles.
On the women's side, WashU finished third through sixth and then eighth though fourteenth place. The top five finishers for the Bears were first-year Sofia Sheldon (3rd – 17:29.96), sophomore Vivienne Larson (4th – 17:36.70), junior Kristin Loftus (5th – 17:39.70), sophomore Lily Dipple (6th – 17:41.17), and sophomore Amelia Maltz (8th – 17:55.16).
The men's team also competed at the same time with the Bears taking home the top two spots and then fourth through ninth. Junior James Corbett was the top finisher in the race with a time of 14:35.08. Junior Maxwell Latshaw finished second, just over a second behind, wit a time of 14:36.39. The other point scorers for WashU included first-year Benjamin Lorenz (4th – 14:45.73), sophomore Calvin Crossland (5th – 14:50.34), and first-year Sean Green (6th (14:50.34).
WashU will host a Mile Time Trail next Thursday, Nov. 14 before traveling to Rock Island, Ill. on Saturday, Nov. 16 for the NCAA Midwest Regional at the Saukie Golf Course.
