ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The No. 8 Washington University in St. Louis women's cross country team flew to New England for the 2024 UAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning. The meet took place at Highland Park and was hosted by Brandeis. The Bears finished on the podium with a third place finish.
No. 11 Chicago claimed the 2024 team title with 38 points while No. 4 NYU was second with 60. WashU finished with 75 points, 10 points ahead of fourth place No. 5 Emory. No. 13 Carnegie Mellon was fifth in the team standings with 118 points.
Case Western (159), Rochester (187), and Brandeis (241) rounded out the standings in sixth through eighth place, respectively.
Junior Jillian Heth was the top finished for WashU with a ninth place finish in a time of 21:44.8. Also finishing in the top 15 was senior Abby Patterson, crossing the finish line in 14th place with a mark of 21:54.2.
The other point scorers for WashU included first-year Lucinda Laughlin (16th, 21:58.2), senior Julia Patterson (17th, 21:59.2), and senior Sophie Bekins (19th, 22:05.3).
Running and finishing in the top 25 for the Bears included first-year Lauren Raley (21st, 22:13.8) and junior Katie Rector (23rd, 22:17.9).
WashU will prepare for the NCAA Regionals on Thursday, Nov. 7 when they travel to take part in the Red/White Invitational, hosted by North Central. A combined men's and women's meet will both kick off at 4 p.m. at St. James Farm.
