Rochester, N.Y. – The Washington University in St. Louis baseball team had five players earn All-UAA honors, the conference announced on Thursday.
First-year
Shane Pellegrino and sophomore
Will Henkel both earned a spot on the First Team while sophomore
Brandon Buday, senior
Kyle Coates and junior
Clayton Miller were named to the Second Team.
Pellegrino played and started at shortstop in 39 games for the Bears. He was second on the team with a .353 batting average and 53 hits. He recorded six doubles, two triples and four homeruns. His four homeruns and 38 RBI was second among the Bears and his 40 runs scored was tied to lead the team. Pellegrino stole 14 bases in 16 attempts which ranked fifth among UAA players and tallied 75 total bases. Additionally, he finished with a .912 fielding percentage and had a team-high 11 double plays.
Henkel made 13 appearances on the mound with 10 starts, finishing the year with a 2.97 ERA. He posted a team-high seven wins for an overall record of 7-2 which is tied for first in the UAA and pitched one complete game with a shutout. Henkel pitched a team-high 63.2 innings and allowed 21 earned runs. He led the team with 66 strikeouts which ranks third among UAA players.
Buday played and started in all 40 games for the Bears, leading the team with a .355 batting average. He also led the team with 166 at-bats, 59 hits and 18 stolen bases in 21 attempts. Buday finished with six doubles, a team-high five triples, two homeruns, 27 RBI and 36 runs scored. Additionally, Buday finished the year with a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage, making zero errors in center field.
Coates made 15 appearances on the mound with one start and finished with a 4-1 record. He had a team-low 1.89 ERA and a team-high five saves, which ranks second among UAA players. Coates pitched one complete game with one shutout and tallied 33.1 innings pitched. He allowed just seven earned runs and struck out 35 batters.
Miller played and started in all 40 games for the Bears, finishing the year with a .324 batting average. He recorded 46 hits and hit a team-high eight homeruns, which ranks fifth in the UAA. Miller recorded 10 doubles, one triple and 39 RBI as well as a team-high 82 total bases. He finished with a team-high .577 slugging percentage and a 1.019 on-base plus slugging (OPS). In the field, Miller predominantly played first or third and finished the season with a .918 fielding percentage.
