Gulve Named Baseball Assistant Coach

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Washington University in St. Louis head baseball coach Pat Bloom has announced the hiring of Mike Gulve as the program's next assistant coach. Gulve will begin his duties at WashU on October 1.
 
Gulve comes to WashU after serving the past six years at Beloit College in Beloit, Wis. Originally hired on as the program's full-time assistant in September 2019, he served in that role until August 2024 when he was promoted to associate head coach.
 
In the six years at his alma mater, the Buccaneers posted an overall record of 133-77 (.633), earning three-straight bids to the NCAA Tournament from 2023-25 and a Midwest Conference North Division title in 2021. Additionally, Gulve guided two All-Americans and 10 all-region players.
 
Gulve served as Beloit's recruiting coordinator, communicating and arranging visits with prospective student-athletes, leading campus tours and attending recruiting showcases. He also handled travel logistics, meals, academic affairs and umpire communication as well as aiding in the management of the program's budget.
 
From 2020-22, Gulve served as the head club baseball coach for 16U/17U for the GRB Rays where he coached all aspects of the game for player development.
 
A St. Louis-area native, Gulve graduated from Webster Groves High School. He returned to his alma mater from 2017-19 where he served as the head JV baseball coach with stints as the assistant varsity basketball coach and assistant varsity softball coach.
 
Gulve also served as the Adidas Athletics head club ball coach 16U gold in St. Louis during the summer of 2019 where he coached and developed Missouri-based players.
 
Gulve spent one semester at Illinois Wesleyan before transferring to Beloit where he finished out his degree and was a four-year starter on the baseball field. He was an all-conference center fielder and the team won the 2016 Midwest Conference title. Additionally, Gulve was a four-year member of the men's basketball team at Beloit and a three-year starter, leading the team in 3-pointers made.
 
Gulve graduated cum laude from Beloit with a degree in mathematics and physics. His senior capstone project was centered around baseball sabermetrics and analytics.
