Claremont, Calif. – The No. 3 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team closed out the Stag-Hen Invitational in Claremont, Calif. on Saturday with a 5-1 victory over No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer.
WashU sits at 9-4 on the year currently and closes out its California trip with a solid 5-2 record.
In addition, the Bears have now defeated five DIII opponents ranked inside the top-40 nationally so far this season.
WashU left no doubt on Saturday, quickly pulling ahead 3-0 after sweeping doubles play, marking the third straight match the Bears have swept doubles.
At the top doubles spot, Abhi Ramireddy/Daniel Li rolled to a convincing 8-3 victory, while Jeremy Ouyang/Scott Yamamoto held off their opponents at No. 2 doubles, 8-6.
Ouyang/Yamamoto have been on a tear recently, winning seven of their last eight doubles matches together.
Gaurav Singh/Jared Phillips won their fourth straight match as a pair, rolling at No. 3 doubles 8-3.
In singles action, the Bears needed just two victories to clinch the match. Three matches went unfinished, while Daniel Li earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles and Gaurav Singh posted a 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 3 slot to seal the win for WU.
The Bears will next return to action on April 1 against McKendree at Tao Tennis Center.
