CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team was back on the court on Saturday when they paid a visit to Wabash. WashU secured the doubles point en route to a 6-1 win over the Little Giants.
Sophomore
Avi Mahajan and senior
Colin Scruggs helped the Bears go up 1-0 in doubles with a 6-4 win at number two. Wabash would level doubles with a 7-6 (5) win at the top spot before sophomore
Drew Koval and junior
Nathan Tam gave WashU the doubles point with their 7-6 (6) win at number three doubles.
It did not take long for first-year
Jeremy Sieben to put the Bears up 2-0 with his 6-2, 6-2 win at number two singles. Right behind him was Koval, who picked up his 6-1, 6-1 win at number six.
Scruggs clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win at the top spot, as WashU led 4-0. The Little Giants earned their lone point at number three with a straight-sets win. Senior
Colin Fox claimed his 6-4, 6-4 win to put WashU up 5-1.
After dropping the first set at number five, 6-4, sophomore
Coleman Merce rebounded for a 7-5 win in set two. With the match decided, Merce won his match in a match tiebreak, 1-0 (8), to give the Bears the final 6-1 margin of victory.
WashU is back on the court on Sunday, Mar. 29 when they visit DePauw for a 10 a.m. ET match in Greencastle, Ind.
