GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The No. 9 Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis
team wrapped up their weekend trip to Indiana on Sunday morning when they took on DePauw. The match was moved indoors due to weather in the area.
The Bears jumped out to a 1-0 match lead by claiming two of the three doubles
matches. Junior
Nathan Tam and sophomore
Drew Koval made quick work at number three, 6-3, before seniors
Case Fagan and
Colin Scruggs clinched the doubles point for the Bears at number two doubles, 6-4.
The Tigers were able to prevent the sweep with a win in a tiebreaker at the top doubles spot.
In singles, sophomore
Avi Mahajan put WashU in front 2-0 with a 6-0, 6-4 win at number five. Senior
Colin Fox made it 3-0 in favor of the Bears with his 6-3, 6-3 win at number four singles. Despite the match going three sets, DePauw tried to claw back in the match with a win at the top singles spot.
Fagan clinched the win for WashU with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) win at number three singles.
Tam also won his singles match at number six in three sets, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
WashU is back in action on Saturday, Apr. 4, when they visit No. 3 Chicago for an 11 a.m. match at the Stagg Tennis Courts.
