Box Score St. Louis, Mo. – The Washington University in St. Louis women's basketball team won its fourth consecutive game on Wednesday evening, defeating Fontbonne 85-65 at the Field House.
The Bears remain perfect at the Field House this season (3-0) and improve to 4-4 on the year.
WashU outscored the Griffins 25-5 in the fourth quarter, including a 23-0 run to end the game.
After a tight back-and-forth battle in the opening period, the score was even at 20-20.
The Bears had a quality performance in the second frame, outscoring the Griffins 22-13, as they shot 56 percent from the field and outrebounded Fontbonne 12-5.
Leading 30-28 with four minutes left before halftime, WU closed out the quarter on a 12-5 run to take a 42-33 advantage into the locker room.
WashU extended its lead into double digits at 47-35, but Fontbonne came out firing in the third quarter and cut into the Bears' lead. The Griffins used a 22-2 run over five minutes and led 57-49 late in the period.
Facing an eight-point deficit, the Bears quickly regrouped and put together an 11-2 run to close out the quarter, which knotted the game at 60 apiece.
The fourth quarter belonged to WashU in every facet, as they shot 71 percent from the floor on 10-14 shooting and outscored Fontbonne 25-5.
In addition, the Bears were perfect on every shot attempt from inside the arc (8-8) in the quarter and held the Griffins to 2-22 shooting.
WashU trailed 65-62 with 7:33 remaining and then outscored Fontbonne 23-0. The scoring stretch included a run where the Bears connected on six consecutive field goals as they pulled ahead 79-65, following a triple from Molly Gannon.
Maya Arnott notched her fourth double-double of the season, as she shot 8-12 from the field, compiling 18 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists.
Molly Gannon shot 50 percent from three-point territory (5-10) and accumulated 15 points and seven rebounds in the victory.
Sammi Matoush added 14 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while Karisa Grandison also reached double figures scoring with 11 points.
Naomi Jackson totaled nine points and dished out a team-high six assists.
WashU will return to action on December 19 at Millikin at 2:00 p.m.
