Kalamazoo, Mich., October 2, 2021 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's tennis team had another solid day at the ITA Central Regional in Kalamazoo on Saturday.
In doubles, No. 2 seeded Abhi Ramireddy/Daniel Li advanced the final round tomorrow with two victories in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. The duo defeated Case Western Reserve decisively 8-3 and then fought past Chicago 8-6 in the semis.
Ramireddy/Li will play No.1 seed CWRU tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. EST.
In singles, the Bears recorded two more victories but were unable to get past the quarterfinal rounds.
No. 5 seed Ramireddy collected a win in the round of 16 with a three-set victory over the No. 9 seeded Christian Alshon of Chicago. Ramireddy rallied from a 6-1 opening set loss to win the second set 6-2, and then 6-3 in the third set.
Ramireddy battled hard in the quarters later in the afternoon, but fell 3-6, 6-4, 4-0 (ret.)
No. 9 seed Gaurav Singh added to the Bears' singles wins with a victory to advance to the quarters after a three-set comeback against No.4 seed Daniel Gomez of Principia (1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
Singh would then take on Ansh Shah the No. 5 seed in the quarterfinals, and fell in a tough three-set match (2-6, 6-3, 6-0).
No. 9 seed Daniel Li dropped a three-set decision in his first singles match on Saturday 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 to No. 5 seed Derek Hsieh of Chicago.
