Swimming Wraps Up Denison & Wheaton Invites with B Cuts

Granville, Ohio/Wheaton, Ill., Dec. 6, 2019 –The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's swimming programs tallied 16 more NCAA Division III B cuts on the final day of the Denison Invitational and the Wheaton Invite on Saturday. 

At the Denison Invitational, the No. 5 ranked men's squad finished in fourth place with 820.5 points, while the squad finished also in third place with 668.5 points at the Wheaton Invite. The No 6-ranked women's team captured fifth with 623 points at the Denison Invitational and placed second with 726 points at the Wheaton Invite.

The women's team collected six NCAA B cut times at the Denison Invitational on Saturday. Both of the WashU 400-yard freestyle relay teams earned B cut times. Junior Elle Pollitt, senior Mollie Seidner, senior Catherine Cowin and sophomore Kiki Bonetta-Misteli finished fifth with a time of 3:27.56. The quartet of freshman Kayleigh Lewis, freshman Anjuii Barrett, sophomore Grace Carey and junior Sabrina Baxamusa took sixth with a time of 3:28.96.

Freshman Sandra Meszaros collected a B cut in the 200-yard butterfly (2:05.29) while Bonetta-Misteli (2:1.71) and sophomore Abby Wilson (2:03.11) had B cuts in the 200-yard backstroke. Seidner also had a B cut in the 100-yard freestyle (51.34), as did Pollitt (51.52) and Cowin (51.68). 

At the Wheaton Invite, freshman Maggie Teng won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.69. Senior Maddie Nelson came in second in the 1650-yard freestyle after touching the wall at 17:47.61. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, sophomore Stephanie Bowater, junior Anne Whitsel, junior Katie Cardwell and freshman Grace Uldrichfinished second with a time of 3:33.63. 

The men's squad netted 10 more B cuts at the Denison Invitational. Senior Peyton Wilson (1:46.37), freshman Andrei Schwartz (1:45.35) and senior Jerry Chen (1:49.46) all collected B cuts in the 200-yard backstroke. Freshman Nick Rogers (1:50.13), freshman Jonathan Ma (1:48.84) and sophomore Nathan Katz (1:50.01) each picked up B cuts in the 200-yard butterfly. 

Senior Simon Deshusses (2:01.74) and sophomore Kevin Hao (2:03.73) had B cuts in the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Mason Kelberpicked up a B cut in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 15:24.91.

Deshusses, senior Chase Van Patten, freshman Michael Kincheloe and sophomore Barclay Dale worked together to get a B cut in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:02.43.

At the Wheaton Invitational, senior Preston Bailey took second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.18. Bailey also teamed up with senior Nozomi Horikawa, sophomore Sam Mahoney, freshman Elliott Carl in the 200-yard medley relay for time of 1:33.24.

The Bears are on a brief competition break and will open up the 2020 schedule on Friday Jan. 10, hosting the WashU Invite, starting at 5 p.m. at Millstone Pool.
