Box Score St. Louis, Nov. 9, 2019 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team had its season come to a close with a 3-0 loss at No. 6-ranked University of Chicago Saturday in the Windy City.
Chicago finished the regular season with a 11-1-5 overall record and 7-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA), while WashU fell to 8-7-1 and 3-4 in the UAA. The Maroons won their fourth-straight conference title and received the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
WashU's four seniors – Connor Mathes, Jack Newman, Isaac Plutzer,Makio Yamamoto – saw their career come to an end with Saturday's loss. The Class of 2019 led WashU to a 32-25-8 in four seasons on the Danforth Campus.
Chicago jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead with goals in the 11th and 24th minute. The Maroons took a 3-0 lead to half after scoring in the 39th minute.
WashU outshot Chicago 10-8, including 8-2 in the second half. The Bears also had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.
BEAR NOTEBOOK: WashU leads the all-time series with Chicago, 25-12-3, but the Maroons are riding a six-game unbeaten streak against the Bears.
