Swimming & Diving Post Strong Showing in Win Over DePauw

St. Louis, Mo., October 26, 2019 –The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicked it into gear on Saturday at Millstone Pool against DePauw University. The Bears tallied of a combined team score of 317-200 to defeat the Tigers. The WashU men's squad won, 155-94, while the women's team were victorious, 162-106. 

The men's squad had multiple swimmers win multiple events. Freshman Mason Kelber won the 1650-yard freestyle (16:07.26), 500-yard freestyle (4:42.08) and was the lead leg in the winning 400-yard freestyle relay (3:11.89). Sophomore Barclay Dale collected top times in the 100-yard freestyle (47.44), the 100-yard backstroke (52.86), and the third leg in the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:34.84). Senior Simon Deshusses won the 100-yard breaststroke (58.58) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:06.24) as sophomore Nathan Katz won the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.89) and 400-yard IM (4:08.07). 

The women's team was paced by senior Stephanie Li's three top finishes. Li won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.64), 200-yard breaststroke (2:26.06) and teamed up with sophomore Natalia Castillo, sophomore Grace Carey, and freshman Noelle DiClemente to win then 200-yard medley relay (1:50.00). Castillo won the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.39) while Carey posted the top time in the 100-yard freestyle (54.21).  

WashU is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Millstone Pool when they welcome the University of Chicago for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
