Box Score Whitewater, Wis. Oct. 21, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's soccer team outshot the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater but could not muster a goal in a 1-0 loss Sunday in Whitewater, Wis.
Whitewater improved to 9-5-1 with the victory and has won eight of its last 10 matches, while WashU dropped to 6-6-1.
WashU outshot Whitewater 16-7 and had an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
WashU had the early shot advantage 5-1, and sophomore Will Sproule nearly scored the first goal of the game but his shot from inside the box was deflected out of bounds for a corner kick.
Whitewater found the back of the net just before half in the 43rdminute to take the 1-0 halftime advantage. WashU outshot Whitewater 9-4 in the first half.
Junior goalkeeper Connor Mathes (4-4-1) made four saves in the defeat.
WashU steps back into conference play by hosting Brandeis University (7-5-2, 2-1-1 UAA) on Friday, Oct. 26 at 5:30 p.m.
