St. Louis, Mo, Jan. 20, 2018 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's swimming and diving programs celebrated senior day with a sweep against NCAA Division II Truman State University on Saturday at I.E. Millstone Pool in St. Louis.
The No. 7-ranked women posted a 151-142 win over Division II No. 20 Truman, while the men recorded a 196-92 victory.
Prior to the meet, WashU honored its 10 senior student-athletes and one manager: Laura Barber, Landon Bennett, Ross Brown, Alissa Ling, Michelle Murdock, Ryan Nathenson, Niamh O'Grady, Jeremy Wojtak, Albert Yao, Nicole Zanolli and Wending Zhu.
The Bears combined for a total of 21 first place finishes which included an NCAA Division III B cut time by junior Brandon Lum during the 200 butterfly (1:49.77). Lum also paired with sophomores Peyton Wilson, Simon Deshusses and Chase Van Patten for the winning time of 1:35.13 in the 200 medley relay.
Nathenson also had a pair of first place finishes for the men in the one-meter dive (263.85) and the three-meter dive (249.97). Junior Kevin Van Cleave also had two first place finishes to his credit in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.64) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:25.79) with the combined efforts of junior Andrew Pek, sophomore Preston Bailey and Brown.
Three of the women's senior members scored first place finishes including: Zanolli in the 200 freestyle (1:55.68) and 200 backstroke (2:09.19); O'Grady in the 200 butterfly (2:08.34) and 200 IM (2:08.28); and Barber in the one-meter dive (218.62) and three-meter dive (253.35).
