Pek Earns UAA Title on Third Day of UAA Championships

Chicago, Ill., Feb. 10, 2017 – Sophomore Andrew Pek earned the University Athletic Association (UAA) Title in the 100 butterfly with a time of 48.74 as the Bears men remain in second place on the third day of the UAA Championships after Friday evening's events. 

WashU's men and women combined for 12 B-cut times as the women are in fourth place. Emory University leads both the men's and women's scoring.

Finishing behind Pek in the 100 fly was sophomore Brandon Lum with a B-cut time of 49.72. Freshman Peyton Wilson placed second in the 100 backstroke with a 2016 qualifying time of 49.50. Wilson's time was a career-best as he reset the WashU school record for the second time this season.

Senior Michael Lagieski finished third in the 100 breaststroke (54.70) while Simon Deshusses finished the "B" finals with a B-cut time (56.59). Sophomore Jordan Wheeler swam to a 2016 qualifying time and third place finish in the 400 individual medley (3:59.07). 

Wilson, Lagieski, Pek and Ross Brown placed third in the 200 medley relay with a B-cut time (1:30.74).

The women's top two finishes were a third place finish in the 800 free relay (7:34.92) – by Nicole Zanolli, Lauren Sapp, MariMac Collins and Niamh O'Grady – and fourth place in the 200 medley relay (1:45.23) – by Zanolli, O'Grady, Lauren Carlos and Collins.

The UAA Championships will conclude Saturday, Feb. 11 with the women's one-meter dive, 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
