Bears Split Dual Meet with Division II Truman State

Kirksville, Mo., Jan. 21, 2017 – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving team finished its second dual meet in as many days against Division II competition as the Bears split with Truman State. The men won with 140 points scored and the women trailed Truman finishing the meet with 117 points.

WashU combined for 13 first place finishes. The men tallied six to outswim Truman's 122 points, while the women captured seven titles but fell to Truman's 145 points.

Sophomore Brandon Lum won both the 100- (51.22) and 200-yard (1:52.61) fly. Joining Lum with individual victories for the men were freshmen Jerry Chen in the 200 backstroke (1:54.14), Nozomi Horikawa in the 100 backstroke (53.74) and senior Michael Lagieski in the 200 breaststroke (2:08.44).

The men's 200 medley relay featuring Chen, Lagieski, sophomore Jordan Wheeler and junior Ross Brown also took first with a time of 1:34.07. The 200 MR time is the fifth best on the season for the Bears.

Impressively on the women's side, senior MariMac Collins won two events individually while also assisting in two relay victories. Collins won the 50 free (24.45) and 100 free (53.26) individually in addition to the 200 MR (1:49.33) and 200 free relay (1:39.55).

The two relay teams featured the same individuals including senior Lauren Carlos and juniors Nicole Zanolli and Niamh O'Grady. Zanolli also won the 200 free title (1:55.45).

Freshman Stephanie Li also won two events individually for WashU, the 100-(1:08.14) and 200- breaststroke (2:28.42).

The Bears will return home for a dual meet against Western Illinois on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. where the Bears senior swimmers and divers will be honored. Be sure to stay up to date on all your Bears scores and awards by following @WashUBears on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
