Swimming and Diving Tops Competition at DePauw University

SWIMMING & DIVING RESULTS

Greencastle, Ind., Oct. 29, 2016 – The Washington University in St. Louis swimming and diving programs won a collective 22 events as the women and men picked up victories over DePauw University and Albion College Saturday evening. The women and men both exceeded 200 points scored on their way to victories.

Sophomore Lauren Sapp had an impressive evening as she was victorious in multiple events. She was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (25.14), 100 butterfly (58.99) while combining efforts with freshman Alex Center and seniors Claire Savage and MariMac Collins in the 400 freestyle relay (3:39.40). 

Junior Niamh O'Grady was also victorious in three events as she finished with the top times in the 100 breaststroke (59.26), 100 freestyle (53.53) and teamed up with junior Nicole Zanolli, Center and freshman Stephanie Li in the 200 medley relay (1:50.63).

Senior diver Emily Ramos topped the competition in both the one-meter and three-meter dive with 219.35 and 226.6 scores. Zanolli was first in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:06.85, while Collins won the 500 freestyle (5:20.44). Freshman Catherine Kuhn won the 1650 freestyle with a time of 18:21.31.

The men were led by four first place finishes from senior Michael Lagieski and sophomore Brandon Lum. Lagieski placed first in both the 100 (57.32) and 200 (2:10.75) breaststroke, with the 100's times setting a season best. Lum was atop both butterfly distances of 100 (51.25) and 200 (1:53.37). 

Freshman Jerry Chen also set a season best time during his 100 backstroke victory, 52.55. Claiming victory in the 200 backstroke (1:55.04) was freshman Peyton Wilson.

Teaming up for the Bears win in the 400 freestyle relay were freshmen James Hardy and Chase Van Patten, junior TJ Dawson and senior Justin Morrell with a time of 3:12.24. Morell was also victorious individually in the 100 free (47.93). 

Also winning individually for the Bears were senior Andrew Ellison in the 1650 free (16:45.46), junior Ross Brown in the 50 free (21.8) and sophomore Kevin Van Cleave (4:16.34).
