Chicago, Ill., Feb. 21, 2015 – The Washington University in St. Louis men's and women's swimming teams finished its regular-season schedule by combining to post five B-cuts at the Midwest Invitational hosted by the University of Chicago Friday-Saturday.
The WashU men scored 398 points to finish second in the team standings behind Case Western Reserve University (511). The WashU women finished third in the team standings with 344.5 points. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee was first in the women's standings with 586.5, while Chicago was second with 393.
Sophomore Jacob Nason posted a pair of season-best times for the WashU men at the meet. He placed second in the 200 butterfly in a season-best and B-cut time of 1:52.11. Nason also finished third in the 200 individual medley with a season-best time of 1:55.42. Sophomore Andrew Ellison clocked a B-cut time of 16:02.35 to win the 1,650 free, and added another first-place finish in the 500 free (4:37.46). Sophomore Reese Frerichs added another B-cut for the Bears, finishing second in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 57.02.
Juniors Katie Anderson and Sophie Gan teamed with sophomores Lauren Carlos and Claire Savage to win the women's 200-medley relay with a B-cut time of 1:45.91. Anderson added a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a season-best time of 57.61, while Savage won the 100 fee in 52.27. Junior Toireasa Rafferty-Millett accounted for the fifth B-cut of the meet for the Bears, winning the 200 butterfly in 2:05.10. The WashU women's 400-free relay team of Savage, sophomore Lindsey Guth, Carlos and sophomore Erin Polries clocked a winning time of 3:44.20.
Freshman Sean Fallon won the men's 100 (47.82) and 200 freestyle (1:42.59) for the Bears. He also swam a season-best time of 47.52 in a 100-free time trial at the meet. Fallon teamed with senior Michael Postetter and juniors Eric Eig and Kevin Hays to win the 200-free relay in a time of 1:30.10.
The WashU men's and women's swimming teams will await the official announcement of NCAA Division III Championships qualifiers, which will be made Monday, March 2, on NCAA.com.
